at The University of Texas
Health Science Center at San
Antonio. This 6-month

determinants of exercise
adherence for female breast
cancer survivors that willingly
attend community-based exercise
sessions. It will
investigate the effects of a
tailored exercise program, a
yoga-focused exercise program,
and a general exercise program
on fitness outcomes, stress,
inflammation and obesity

adherence. Nydia has
developed the specialized Yoga
protocol, trains and mentors the
yoga instructors and continues
to supervise the classes that
are held within her studio at
Nydia’s Yoga Therapy.
-
Nydia is the owner of Nydia's
Yoga Therapy Studio. She brings
her 25+ years of experience in
orthopedic, spine, and women's
health physical therapy to a

available to every
body—regardless of age, size,
shape or fitness level.
-
Nydia has combined traditional
western physical therapy
practice with eastern yoga
practices and has unique
experience in working with
individuals who have experienced
chronic illness, chronic pain,
neuromuscular challenges and
mobility limitations. She
believes that education is a key
to success in the yoga therapy
programs that she delivers.
Nydia looks forward to teaching
her clients as much as they care
to know about their physical
body with the goal of empowering
them with the tools that will
help them improve their quality
of living in all areas physical,
mental and spiritual.
-
Nydia began independent yoga
studies in 1995 in order to
fulfill a desire to begin a
personal yoga practice that
would help her stay mobile and
strong into her senior years.
This was the beginning of a
great adventure that ultimately
has led to her opening her own
yoga studio---Nydia’s Yoga
Therapy Studio. She continues
independent yoga studies and
practice and has been blessed to
experience the teachings of a
variety of inspiring yoga
teachers. Nydia has completed a
200 hour yoga teacher training
certification with the Hard &
the Soft Yoga Institute under
the supervision of its founder
Beryl Bender Birch. She is
registered with Yoga Alliance
and is a member of the
International Association of
Yoga Therapy. Nydia believes
strongly in the benefits of
having a personal practice and
can be found on her yoga mat
very early in the morning when
she is not out on the road
running with her dogs. She has
combined her experiences in
physical therapy, fitness and
yoga to create a unique and
specialized approach to
wellness. Nydia is dedicated to
creating specialized yoga
programs where her students are
able to utilize a mind-body and
functional approach to whole
body & spirit wellness.
Teresa Guerra
Teresa began practicing yoga as a
way to relax, but soon developed a
passion for the unique form of
exercise that brought her many
physical benefits as well. Teresa's
passion for yoga inspired her to
become certified to teach beginning
yoga, prenatal yoga and children's
yoga. Teresa's beginning classes
introduce students to proper
alignment and breathing to help
maximize the benefits of each pose
(asana). She welcomes expectant
mothers to her classes and
introduces appropriate modifications
to allow them to practice safely.
Teresa has continued her yoga
education with teacher trainings and
workshops including studies with
Baron Baptiste, Shakta Kaur Khalsa
(Radiant Child Program) and David
Swenson. As a busy mother of four,
Teresa knows that our lives can get
in the way of taking care of
ourselves. She recommends yoga as
the ideal way to develop and
maintain flexibility, to tone the
body and help reduce the affects of
stress. Her goal is to get her
students "hooked" on yoga and on
their own path to healing, strength
and balance.
"We make new habits and those
habits make us new."
---Baron Baptiste
Susan Ogden
Susan came to the practice
of yoga later than many, but as the
bumper sticker says, she “got here
as quick as she could!” She began to
attend yoga classes as a student in
1999, so that she could still
participate in an exercise program
despite several overuse injuries.
She enjoyed those classes so much
that she attended Hatha and Ashtanga
trainings and workshops with the
goal of sharing those benefits with
others.
Susan began teaching many years
before she came to yoga. As a
graduate student, she was called
upon to teach undergraduate business
management, corporate ethics and
marketing classes at a Top 10 School
of Business. After graduation, she
worked for IBM in the sales training
division, where she developed
training programs for new
salespeople.
After Susan and husband Dave began
their family, she turned to a more
flexible work schedule: fitness
instruction. She is certified by the
American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA)
and teaches swim lessons to
beginners, adults, and competitive
age group swimmers. Susan has been
an ACE certified Group Fitness
Instructor since 2001, and teaches
water aerobics, weight training,
cycle, low-impact aerobics,
Resist-A-Ball and Hatha Yoga
classes. In her opinion, on of the
best things about teaching yoga is
witnessing all the wonderful and
varied ways people learn about
themselves and their yoga practice.
Susan adds, “When one can
successfully teach a new skill or a
new awareness to another, a brand
new world is opened for them.”
Sarah Idriss
Sarah received a Master’s degree in
Kinesiology from Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville, Texas and
a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science
from Nicholls State University in
Thibodaux, Louisiana. She is a

Specialist with the National
Strength and Conditioning
Association. Sarah was a collegiate
athlete at Nicholls State University
and assistant college coach at Sam
Houston State. She has experience in
personal training and group fitness
instruction working with a highly
specialized group of post

experience in mind/body application
of movement technique utilizing the
STOTT Pilates Method and considers
movement to be essential to having a
happy and healthy body.
Sarah has spent countless hours
observing and volunteering at
various Physical Therapy clinics in
the San Antonio area. She is
currently working in a position on
the support staff at the Center for
Physical Therapy and Sports
Performance where she is able to
interact daily with a wide variety
of orthopedic and sports physical
therapy rehabilitation patients. She
has earned entrance into the
physical therapy program at The
University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio where upon
completion of the program, she will
earn a Doctorate in Physical
Therapy.
Sarah was introduced to the
fascinating world of yoga practice
at Nydia’s Yoga Therapy where she
began a specialized Yoga Therapy
Internship (the first of its kind)
under the supervision of Nydia
Tijerina Darby, licensed physical
therapist and studio owner. Sarah
actively participates in her
continuing yoga studies by putting
in countless hours of observation of
and participation in yoga classes
led by a variety of yoga
instructors, reading as many
textbooks on the philosophy and
practical applications of yoga, as
well as completing any specialized
projects that are required in her
Yoga Therapy Internship at Nydia’s
Yoga Therapy. She participates
regularly in a personal yoga
practice that allows her to discover
the many nuances of an ongoing yoga
practice. Sarah’s personal practice
also allows her to use her body as a
laboratory where she is able to
experiment with necessary
modifications to postures that will
allow her to teach a wide variety of
clients at their individualized
level. She has studied with leaders
in the yoga world such as Beryl
Bender Birch, Sharon Gannon, Nicki
Doane, Eddie Modestini, and Mark
Uridel. It is her belief that the
opportunity to practice yoga and
become an active individual is a
gift that presents itself each day
to anyone who will accept it.
Sarah has a great passion for
introducing others to the benefits
of a yoga practice. She is working
toward a 200 hour teacher
certification under the supervision
of Nydia Darby, and is thankful for
every opportunity to continue
learning about this amazing
practice.
